MicksBikeParts was a spin off of the main MicksGarage site setup, initially, to sell exclusively Honda motorbike parts but with plans for expansion to other brands. This was an opportunity for me to start with a basically clean slate and to try and improve on the customer experience on MicksGarage.com
In both the car and motorbike parts markets one of the difficult complexities was dealing with the disparity between technical parts (brake pads, suspension parts etc) and accessories / aftermarket parts (batteries, wiper blades etc). The two categories required very different paths to product. With the bike parts site I had the opportunity to take a fresh look at this path in an attempt to find the best of both worlds.
My solution in this case was developing two very different interaction models for the two different sets of products. Filtering does not apply to the technical products, and navigation to them is through identification of the customers bike.
Another small innovation first deployed on the bike parts site was the quantity selectors. This feature was quickly built into the main micksgarage.com site.
Many of the new layouts for the supporting pages on the bike parts site were also brought back into the main site such as the new layout and functionality of the Contact Us page.
